Sisko maanittelee vastahakoisen Ruthin mukaansa juhliin. Savuisessa, jazz-musiikin täyttämässä huoneessa Ruth huomaa salskean lakiopiskelijan, Seretse Khaman. Sisko esittelee nuoret toisilleen. Kipinät lentelevät, kun Ruth ja Seretse juttelevat, tanssivat ja rakastuvat. Nuorten suhde ei kuitenkaan ole ongelmaton.
